Kimber Model 8400 Classic in .30-06 Springfield

I chose a Kimber Model 8400 Classic as a base platform to create a classically-styled sporter for myself. I wanted a 24 inch barrel with decent walnut.  I used a photo of a Griffin & Howe sporter found in Jon Speed’s book Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles as a styling guide.

The forend was reshaped and an ebony tip installed. The ejection port was opened.  Dakota inletted rear sling swivel, barrel band sling swivel, red recoil pad, NECG front and rear sights, and Leupold QR scope rings. The allen head action screws were changed to slotted head screws.  Lugs lapped, action rails polished, action glass bedded, and the barrel free floated. I added a little checkering to the factory pattern and recheckered the entire stock at 20 lines per inch.  -- Todd
